Cancer on the Decline
The man being interviewed is my division director. He's the nicest man ever. Did I mention I love my job?

It's Good to Be Back
This past weekend Subbie and I went to a place in the mountains we have never been.

Blacksburg, VA
I raced under the lights with the Cat 4 men and had a blast. While I am used to most everyone being "taller/bigger" than I, I completely forgot how ginormous men are. I took off at the start no faster than I normally do and somehow found myself out front. I considered this "odd" and glanced back to see what was going on when I was startled to see a wheel and leg. Normally I look back to see handlebars and arms. Nope, this dude was like 7 feet tall or something. I was very scared and thought that surely he must realize a "draft" simply did not exist and maybe he just wanted his knees and toes warm from the wind. Then I had one of the hardest wrecks I have had in years. It was great.
Sunday I raced in freezing cold temps, flurries, and 35mph wind....

mmm....food......

I rode my bike as fast as I could....

.... and I won a race (technically more by default because all of the big girls were at the USGP..but I'll still count it). No, it's not a "arm raise" but more of a really happy girl racing her bike going, "What can I say, I love this!"

Subbie Style Cyclocross
I have got to learn to drive like this. Brett, thanks for the idea of how Subbie and I should spend out last few weeks together.

Blowing Out the Other Engine
I can't say I'm surprised. The first two races were about introducing myself back to the scene, testing the right leg, and trying not to die. I accomplished those things. By the third race I had enough fitness to "race" when an all too familiar feeling hit me. This time in the left leg.
Dr. Cherry and I talked while he was on a cross country journey to South Dakota to go hunting. Just he and his dog were making the trek out to meet his friends. This is why I love my surgeon. He works crazy hard, but also knows when to relax. Who would want a stressed out overworked surgeon operating on their arteries?? Dr. Cherry was hoping that a measure he took in the first surgery would prevent the left one from getting worse. Of course my life is never that simple. So I will be spending most of December and New Years the same way I spent July and August. I can't say I'm too happy about that but, "ehhh whatcha'gonna do?". Like doling out big rides in winter elements it is what it takes to go fast (oh yes, and not eventually have life threatening complications as apparently happens if you don't do anything about this).
In the meantime, I have been able to control the leg enough to compete and have a lot of fun and I will continue to do so until I have to go back under the knife.
Today is a great day. Last night I witnessed a defining moment in history and I woke up this morning with such a feeling of hope. It's all over the place and I am enjoying just taking it all in. It seems like everyone around here has at least slowed down enough to take a deep breath and pause in awe. I'm glad they have paused long enough to notice that while we are in troubled times, and probably will be for quite some time, the overall future looks bright.
